LOS ANGELES – For 30 years, Sharon Cuneta has shared her life with us through her songs, television shows and films that have endeared her to our hearts. Sharon took that one step further of bringing us closer to her through her concert dubbed “Megathirty Tour 2009” held June 12, 2009 at the Shrine Auditorium here.

At a press  conference at the Celebrity Theatre, her warm, personable attitude was not lost on the media. At her side as she answered questions was daughter KC.

“It’s really a look back on the 30 years as much as we could condense into two hours. It’s touching, fun and entertaining,” Sharon explains. Sharon fans were treated to an intimate concert of songs and anecdotes through the night — while fighting a cold. At one point, she hid behind hairstylist Fannie Serrano to blow her nose.

With a simple stage, Sharon morphed from sweet to torchy to with musical director Louie Ocampo leading the transition. Her repertoire commenced with a medley of early hits such as “Mister DJ” and “P.S. I Love You.”

After the 80s segment, KC dueted with her mother to sing “Dear Heart” with her mother.  “Dear Heart is one of the songs I can most relate to,” says Sharon. “I think at that time it was something that I was going through.”

KC loves to tell stories of her mother, which she did on stage and at the press conference. Her favorite is that of Sharon being awake at 4 a.m. baking a cake.  “I came home from taping at 4 a.m. Pagod na pagod ako. Gusto kong matulog. On na on ang lahat ng ilaw saw kitchen. Pag tingin ko ng nanay ko, nasa kusina. With four other people nagba-bake ng cake. Ang bango bango ang boong bahay,” KC said.

The anecdotes and other funny recollection turned the cavernous Shrine Auditorium into an intimate room. It felt like  friends and relatives coming home to a family reunion with the megastar and her daughter.  Asked how many more years will she stay in show business, Cuneta answered, “It’s not for me to say. I’d love to stay forever.”

Politics is something she’d rather leave to her husband, Philippine Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan. 

Right now, she’s happy being back in school at UP, hosting a  TV show, and working on two albums.
