Hip Hop International has become the ultimate in world dance competitions. One can say that it is the Olympics of hip hop dance attracting dance crews from various countries to compete for the World Championship Division. From oppressed nations to countries dealing with hunger and poverty, young dancers see Hip Hop International as way to raise their flag for a moment to show their pride in their country.
In this column’s on going coverage of Hip Hop International leading up to the event in Las Vegas, this reporter will spotlight various dance crews from different countries.
One dance crew who are making that trip Las Vegas is Rolx hailing from the country of Zimbabwe. Romeo, Bongani, Shane, Sean and the only female of the crew Yeukai make up a diverse group of dancers. Starting in 2006 Yeukai and Sean came together while the others joined the crew in subsequent years.
The group started competing in various events in March of 2007. After their long road of competing in dance events, it was time for them to take the road to Las Vegas at the 2011 Hip Hop International. In their video clip submitted to Hip Hop International they state, “We’ve been going through hard times in the past few years, but we want to raise the flag high now. Raise the hopes in people and make Zimbabwe shine.”
